Weald Of Kent Steam Rally – Woodchurch – 1st August 2015

I wasn’t expecting to be reporting for this event, but as Saturday was such a glorious day I couldn’t resist taking the short drive over to Woodchurch.

The event itself was fantastic allowing visitors close viewing to around 100 steam engines which were gracing the field. There were 50 full size engines of all types and around 50 smaller scale machines, all of which were fantastic to see hear and smell.

It was great to see Woodchurch being used for an airshow again. Here is a shot of two of the Turbulent team getting airborne.

The "Turbs" performed their usual mix of formation and barnstorming flying.

The main attraction for me was the chance to see Woodchurch as an airshow venue again, albeit only for a short while. There was a very entertaining 3 act show, with the Turbulent Team, Lauren Richardson and Rob Davies, the owner of the Woodchurch strip, closing the show in style in Maurice Hammond’s P-51D Marinell.

This was the first time I had been back to Woodchurch since the annual Wings & Things shows stopped a few years ago. It was a great trip down memory lane and reminded me how picturesque the venue is.

My first time seeing Marinell in a few years, I'd forgotten just how beautiful this Mustang is.

Even without the flying the event itself was superb with a wonderful atmosphere and some great machinery on display, certainly an event that is set to be on my calendar for years to come.
